Harry potter and the IMAX Dream Movie, Reviews

During my high school I was running a popular Harry potter Fan website called Darklord Arena. At that point of time I was in contact with many webmasters from other Harrypotter websites. When GoF was released I was invited to participate in the red carpet and to represent my site. I chose not to but gleefully watched the live stream. The red carpet happened in a IMAX screen and my friends were talking on and on about it’s grandeur. I had to wait as IMAX was not here in India.

Poster

After the fiasco of OotP and HBP I was apprehensive about the new installment as well. Frankly Voldemort defeating Dumbledore at Ministry of Magic in OotP is not my kind of a scene. But as usual the HP7 trailers were damn good and I once again caught up with the HP fever. And this time I had the oppurtunity to visit an IMAX screen and win my dream. So I gleefully filled my snack bar and entered IMAX yesterday for the midnight show.

The movie opened up slowly and began to gather pace with moving Harry out of Privet drive. In the name of time editing they have missed a lot of aspects such as Snape’s ‘Sectumsempra’ and Mad Eye’s death. For about 15 seconds my head went numb after seeing a Die-Hard like chase on Sirius’s bike. During Bill – Fleur wedding Harry should be masqueraded as a Weasly but here he comes without any disguise making the whole security arrangements a laughing stock. In Grimauld’s palace the protection is so weak and the story of Kreacher and RAB is not shown. And the trio enters the Ministry without any plan and without the protection of Invisibility cloak.

Fly, dumbo!

The scene where Ron destroys the Horcrux and the story of three brothers is really excellent. Except for these two scenes the movie was quite stupid. The dialogues looked like a commentary. During the fight with the snatchers the trio did not use their wand at all(Probably they had forgotten that they were wizards). Towards the end in Malfoy Manor the importance of Harry-Wormtail bond was not shown at all. And in prison Nurmengard, Gellert Grindelweld refuses to give the information to Voldy and repents his past sins but in this movie it is shown otherwise. Voldemort’s breaking into Dumbledore’s tomb could’ve been more dramatic but it is stupid and ends in a splash.

See what I mean?

There are many scenes which are worth watching especially Emma watson was damn pretty. She is way hotter as the day pa.. Uh? Not important! My point is, this movie has let down my expectations as a Potter-holic. One thing I must admit, this movie was far, far… far, better than OotP and HBP but nowhere near PoA and GoF.

Rating: 2.5/5

Verdict: Worth a watch. Same may not be true for real Potter fans.

Cast:Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, Rupert Grint
